Santa Teresa sits in south San Jose, wrapping around Santa Teresa Park and the golf course, bounded roughly by Bernal Road to the north and the Santa Teresa foothills to the south. It is a residential neighborhood with strong schools and families who care about their kids’ academic trajectories.
Pinecone is not in Santa Teresa. We are about 15 to 20 minutes east, at 2921 The Villages Parkway inside the Evergreen area. That drive is manageable for many Santa Teresa families, especially for younger students whose parents are already doing after-school pickup runs. For families where the drive doesn’t work, our online option covers the same program with the same tutor.
Vivian founded Pinecone in 2008 and has worked with families from all over the east and south sides of San Jose since. Santa Teresa families have been part of that story for the whole 17 years.

Santa Teresa parents tend to be practical about tutoring. The most common things we hear from families considering us:
- Writing help their school isn’t providing. Santa Teresa High, Bernal Middle, and the elementary schools all assign writing but rarely teach it as a discrete skill. Pinecone fills that gap.

Directions from Santa Teresa
From the Santa Teresa High area, take Bernal Road east to Highway 101, then north to the Capitol Expressway exit, then east on Capitol to Aborn Road, then left on The Villages Parkway. About 20 minutes with normal traffic.
From the Santa Teresa Park area, surface streets via Snell Avenue and Silver Creek Valley Road are usually faster during commute hours. About 15 to 18 minutes.
Parking at our plaza is free and directly in front of the storefront.

The online option for Santa Teresa families
If the drive to Evergreen isn’t practical for your family, the online option is the same program with the same tutor, just delivered by video. $20 additional per month above in-person tuition. Many Santa Teresa families do a mix: in-person when it works, online when it doesn’t.
The one thing worth knowing is that our online sessions still emphasize handwriting for younger students. Research on generative encoding is consistent that handwriting builds memory and comprehension more strongly than typing. Even in an online session, we ask elementary students to write with pencil and paper and hold their work up to the camera.

- Do you offer fully online sessions?
- Yes. One-on-one online sessions are available at an additional $20 per month above in-person tuition. Many Santa Teresa families do a mix: in-person during summer, online during the school year.
- What subjects can my Santa Teresa student focus on?

- Our advertised programs run ages 3 through 8th grade, with a strong middle school essay prep component. Occasional high school work is available through private tutoring for returning Pinecone families, but we do not advertise or take new high school clients.
